Opera aficionados around the globe have reason to celebrate since the 2017 Puccini Festival celebrated in the picturesque hamlet of Torre del Lago will be featuring some of the greatest Puccini classics like Madame Butterfly, Tosca, and La Boheme. One of the highlights of the 2016 Puccini Festival is Opera Turandot by the Tuscan composer Ferruccio Busoni who had been captivated by the Carlo Gozzi fairy tales even before Puccini and came up with an opera on his own libretto. This is the only festival in the world which is totally dedicated to opera composer Giacomo Puccini which will take place in the months of July and August right at the very location which inspired Puccini to compose his immortal melodies.

The Puccini Festival traces its origin back to the 1930s when the Maestro expressed his desire to listen to his compositions played live on the very shores of the lake where it had been composed. The composer hoped that his operas would be someday performed in the picturesque natural setting offered by the Massaciucolli Lake. Six years after his death ‘La Boheme’ was put on stage for the first time at the Torre del Lago. This was the beginning of what later went on to become one of the most important opera festivals of the globe. The curtains of the 2016 Puccini Festival would rise with Tosca on the 15th of July. There would be 3 performances of La Boheme on 16th July, 26th July and 5th August; 3 performances of Turandot on 23rd July, 30th July and 12th August; and 2 performances of Madame Butterfly on 29th July and 10th August. One of the highlights of the 2016 Puccini Festival is Opera Turandot by the Tuscan composer Ferruccio Busoni who had been captivated by the Carlo Gozzi fairy tales even before Puccini and came up with an opera on his own libretto. Turandotwhich premiered in Zurich in May 1917 continues to be one of the one of the most important musical creation ever made. Busoni wrote the Turandot score in a record time of 100 days within which he completed the 2 acts in the 4 quarters of Turandot.
